Warriors: Katsande Retracts Retirement Statement
Warriors captain, Willard Katsande, has announced that he will not, in fact, retire from national duty, but will instead continue playing for the Warriors.
Katsande made the shocking announcement of his retirement from international football, after the Warriors were knocked out of the 2017 AFCON tournament in the group stages.
Katsande, who plays for South African club, Kaizer Chiefs, said that he had spoken to a few people, including his managers and technical managers at Kaizer Chiefs, about the possibility of resuming his national duty.
He said that they were all supportive about him playing for the Warriors once more.
“I have resolved that I will try my best to help my country to qualify for the 2019 tournament and those qualifiers will be my last piece of action before I retire [sic],” he told Zimbabwean newspapers.
Katsande was also outspoken about ZIFA’s decision to fire former Warriors manager, Callisto Pasuwa, after Zimbabwe’s dismal performance at the AFCON tournament.
“I think that’s a big mistake to let coach Pasuwa leave the Warriors. As we saw [it], he had built a monster of a team with this Warriors squad [and] he had instilled a winning culture [sic],” he told reporters.
