US Musician Tom Petty Dies at 66

US musician Tom Petty, died 2 October at the age of 66. According to sources he suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu and was taken to UCLA Medical Center, but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 20:40 surrounded by his family, his bandmates and friends.

Petty was the lead singer of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers rock band, which produced hits such as ‘American Girl’, Breakdown’, ‘Learning to Fly’, and the iconic song ‘Free Fallin’. He was also a co-founder of The Traveling Wilburys group in the late 1980’s. The Heartbreakers just wrapped up their tour at the Hollywood Bowl a week ago.

In his career, as an artist with his band The Heartbreakers, and with the supergroup, The Traveling Wilburys, he has sold more than 80 million records.

Many celebrities sent out tributes to the acclaimed musician. Paul McCartney tweeted that he was “sending his love” to Petty and his family. Beach Boys Star Brian Wilson tweeted that he is “heartbroken to hear about Tom Petty. Tom was a hell of a songwriter and record-maker. He will be missed by everyone who loves music”.
