UCL: How Bayern Brutally Demolished Tottenham 7-2

October 02, 2019

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a shocking 7-2 home defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in their matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, 1 October.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were hopeful of three points, but ended up setting an unwanted record – the biggest-ever margin of defeat dealt to an English team at home in any European competition.

Tottenham started the game off with good pace and took the lead through Son Heung-min in the 12th minute, however, the German Champions refused to give in, with Joshua Kimmich firing an equaliser within 3 minutes of the Spurs’ lead.

Robert Lewandowski then scored another goal just before the end of the first half to complete the comeback, as Bayern took a 2-1 lead.

Serge Gnabry, took advantage of their second half lead, and netted two goals to put Bayern 4-1 up – Harry Kane tried to fight back with a penalty goal – but Gnabry completed a hat-trick and Lewandowski added a sixth goal for the Bavarians.

Gnabry scored Bayern’s seventh goal to seal Tottenham’s humiliation and the night became a memorable one for him as he became the first German to score four goals in a single Champions League match since 2012.
