Typhoid Outbreak In Zim
The Zimbabwean government has confirmed that the country is facing a typhoid outbreak and that there have been close to forty reported cases of typhoid disease.
It is also thanks to a short mango season that authorities in the country can keep up with the outbreak.
Zimbabwe is also currently facing a massive drought crisis with the weather phenomenon, El Nino, wreaking havoc on crops and cattle across the country. Many Zimbabweans are also struggling with food and water scarcities.
While 38 reported and confirmed cases of typhoid have been tallied by authorities since the beginning of the year, it is believed that there are at least 400+ cases in the country that has yet to be confirmed.
The authorities also said that there has been at least one death linked to typhoid disease this year.
However, on the brighter side of things, authorities have said that the rate of new typhoid cases is on the decline thanks to the short mango season. This is because typhoid disease gets spread through ingesting unpeeled and unwashed fruits and vegetables.
Most of the confirmed typhoid cases have been reported in rural areas of Harare and surrounds.
The Zimbabwean Ministry of Health and Child Welfare has urged Zimbabweans to take special care in washing and preparing fruits and vegetables.
