Tunisia & Algeria Make AFCON 2019 Semis
Tunisia slid comfortably into the AFCON 2019 semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Madagascar on Thursday night, 11 July, while Algeria scraped in by a hair in the same night.
Madagascar enjoyed an impressive tournament performance overall, but had their hopes dashed as they were beaten 0-3 by Tunisia in a one-sided game. The first half was short on excitement, but Tunisia exploded in the second half scoring in the 52nd, 59th and 90th minutes.
Both Algeria and the Ivory Coast battled fiercely, with Algeria scoring in the first half, whilst Ivory Coast replied in the second half to even the score – leaving the match on 1-1, and forcing a penalty shoot-out. Algeria were declared the winners after scoring four penalties to Ivory Coast’s three.
Other semi-finalists: tournament favourites Senegal sailed 1-0 past Benin, whilst Nigeria won 2-1 and sent South Africa home.
Senegal will see Tunisia on Sunday night, 14 July, at 6pm CAF; and Algeria will take on Nigeria at 9pm on the same night.
