Tuchel’s Lions Roar in Belgrade as England Thrash Serbia
England delivered their most rousing performance under coach Thomas Tuchel with a ruthless 5-0 win over hosts Serbia in Belgrade on Tuesday, 9 September, all but sealing their place at the 2026 World Cup.
Harry Kane opened the scoring with a header at the 33rd minute – his 74th international goal – before a dazzling move just two minutes later lit up the night. Morgan Rogers’ clever flick released Noni Madueke, who surged forward and chipped in a composed finish.
In the second half, Ezri Konsa and Marc Guehi grabbed their first goals for the Three Lions, while substitute Marcus Rashford converted a late penalty to round off a statement victory.
Tuchel’s side silenced the intimidating Rajko Mitic Stadium almost immediately, controlling possession and overwhelming Serbia, who ended with ten men after Nikola Milenkovic’s late-game dismissal.
England’s dominance was clear: 24 shots, 12 on target, and Jordan Pickford remained untroubled in goal while picking up his seventh clean sheet.
Speaking afterwards, Tuchel praised his players: “It is now up to me to make some decisions on positions but this is international football. These players proved a point every day in camp, and the team did it again with their performance.”
With five wins from five qualifiers and no goals conceded, England’s journey to North America looks firmly on track.
