Trump: Visit To Egypt Will Happen Soon

May 22, 2017

After holding talks with Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Saudi Arabia this weekend, US president, Donald Trump, has said that he is planning a trip to Egypt soon.

Trump met with President el-Sisi in the capital of Riyadh, where he also met with several other officials from Saudi Arabia.

Trump told the media that he had “very, very important” talks with el-Sisi, and praised the Egyptian leader for the way in which he is handling difficult security issues in his country.

Trump was quoted as saying that “safety seems to be very strong” in Egypt – something he attributed to el-Sisi and his government.

Continuing his praise of el-Sisi, Trump said that he would be visiting the African country soon.

“I will get to Egypt. We will absolutely be putting that on the list very soon,” he said.

The trip to Saudi Arabia is Trump’s first foreign visit since he took office in January. He was accompanied by his wife, Melania Trump.

This is not the first time that Trump and el-Sisi have held talks.

Just last month, el-Sisi travelled to Washington, where he met with Trump to discuss relations between Egypt and the US.

The relationship between the two countries had become severely strained during former US president Barack Obama’s time in office. The Obama administration was very critical of the way in which the Egyptian presidency handled the fight against militant extremists, citing various human rights violations.

It seems that relations between the two countries have improved significantly since Trump took office.

Trump recently announced that the US will increase their military aid to Egypt to $1.3 billion annually.
