Tragic End for Hollywood Legend as Son Faces Court

December 18, 2025

The entertainment world remains in shock following the first court appearance of Nick Reiner, charged with the double murder of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Reiner.

The 32-year-old appeared in a suicide-prevention smock at the Los Angeles (LA) Superior Court in California on Wednesday, 17 December, remaining silent except for a brief acknowledgement of his rights.

The LA County Medical Examiner confirmed that the couple had died from “multiple sharp force injuries” in their home on Sunday, 14 December.

Romy and Jake – the couple’s other two children – spoke of their “unimaginable pain.” Describing their parents as their best friends, the siblings asked for “speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity.”

Nick, who has previously battled addiction and mental health challenges, did not enter a plea. His lawyer, Alan Jackson, characterised the situation as an immense family tragedy, suggesting that the case involves intricate personal and legal complications that require careful examination rather than a rushed judgment.

A joint letter was publicly issued by their close friends, including Larry David and Billy Crystal, remembering the “Princess Bride” filmmaker by quoting his favourite film: “Each man’s life touches so many other lives, and when he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?”

Nick Reiner will remain in custody until 7 January.
