Tomorrowland Fire Fails to Dampen Festival Spirit
A massive fire has destroyed the main stage of Belgium’s iconic Tomorrowland festival, just a day before its highly anticipated opening.
The blaze broke out on Wednesday evening, 16 July, sending thick smoke across the site and gutting the centrepiece structure of the electronic dance music event in Boom, Belgium.
No injuries were reported, and organisers swiftly reassured fans that the show would go on. “DreamVille will open tomorrow … and will be ready for all DreamVille visitors,” they stated, adding that performances and travel packages are unchanged.
Authorities believe the fire was likely accidental, although prosecutors have still launched an investigation. Despite the setback, the two-weekend festival will welcome over 100 000 ravers, with acts such as David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren and Charlotte de Witte.
Fans reacted with a mix of nostalgia and disbelief on X (formerly Twitter).
One user joked: “Time to go old school, just a table with the decks and a bunch of speakers,”
Another questioned the decision to proceed: “Mainstage burned down and you’re still going through?? Bruh. [sic]”
Tomorrowland is pushing ahead with alternative plans in order to celebrate its second decade of operation, proof that not even fire can extinguish the festival’s unbreakable rave spirit.
