Tomana Arrested Over Mugabe Bomb Threat

February 02, 2016

Johannes Tomana, who is the Prosecutor General of the country, has been arrested and has been allegedly charged with abuse of office.

It is believed that Tomana was arrested because of the withdrawal of charges of two suspects that were charges with allegedly plotting to bomb a dairy firm owned by President Robert Mugabe.

The two suspects are believed to have ties to various intelligence services.

However recently, the two suspects had their charges withdrawn after the office of the prosecutor general said that they would instead turn chief witnesses.

Tomana’s arrest comes at a time when political tensions in Zimbabwe are exceptionally high, with rival parties rallying against the ruling Zanu-PF, who seems to be punting the President’s wife, Grace Mugabe, as a possible successor to leadership in the country.

There are also some factions in the country that are believed to be backing both Grace as well as vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The government has yet to release a statement on Tomana’s arrest.
