Thieves Steal Valuable Van Gogh Painting
A Vincent van Gogh painting worth an estimated £5 million has been stolen from an art museum in the Netherlands.
According to reports, the painting – titled “Spring Garden” – was stolen early on Sunday morning, 29 March, from the Singer Laren Museum in Laren, North Holland.
The thieves smashed through the front glass and stole the painting, which had been on loan from the Groninger Museum in Groningen. Police officials say that nothing else had been stolen.
The Singer Laren Museum is temporarily closed to the public due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking at a media conference via YouTube, Jan Rudolph de Lorm – the museum’s director – expressed his anger over the theft, which coincided with Van Gogh’s 167th birthday.
De Lorm said: “A beautiful and moving painting by one of our greatest painters, stolen from the community … this must come back as soon as possible, so that we can enjoy and be comforted by this beautiful art again.”
