The Weeknd Donates $100 000 to Health Centre in Uganda

June 02, 2017

The Weeknd has shown the world his charitable side by donating a whopping $100 000 to a health centre in the distressed African country of Uganda.

Various sources have confirmed that the ‘Starboy’ singer pulled out his cheque book and donated the money to a maternity and pediatric medical centre called Suubi in the village of Budondo in Uganda.

According to reports, the 27-year-old muso came to hear about the centre through his friend and fellow artist, French Montana, who has been working with the Global Citizen and Mama Hope foundations.

Both these foundations have been actively involved in children’s organisations and medical centres in Africa and the Suubi Centre.

With The Weeknd’s generous donation, the centre will now be able to complete the construction of their maternity clinic, which will then allow the centre to care for 260 000 people.

French Montana also launched an online campaign, called #Unforgettable, that aims to raise awareness for the people of Uganda.

Through his campaign, the Suubi Centre has been able to afford premature incubators, a blood bank, cribs for the babies and other necessities.

It’s always wonderful to see big name celebrities give back.
