The Unravelling: Liam Rosenior’s Historic Chelsea Slump
Liam Rosenior’s brief tenure at Stamford Bridge has descended into a historic crisis.
Despite an initial honeymoon period after being appointed as head coach in early January, the club has plummeted into its worst run of form since 1912, suffering five consecutive league defeats without scoring a single goal.
While Chelsea have often dominated possession and shot counts, a lack of clinical finishing and individual errors at the back have proved fatal.
The situation reached a breaking point following a demoralising 3-0 loss at Brighton. After the match, Rosenior abandoned his usual protection of the squad, stating, “That’s indefensible, that performance tonight.”
He further lamented the display as “the most difficult night” of his career.
The hierarchy is now reviewing his position at Cobham. Internal friction is mounting, with reports of a dressing-room disconnect and frustration over leaked lineups. Although injuries to stars like Cole Palmer have hampered his progress, the 41-year-old’s tactical shifts have failed to stop the rot.
With a Football Association Cup semi-final against Leeds looming, the board must decide if Rosenior can still inspire a squad that appears increasingly unconvinced by his methods. Under a cloud of historic failure, his 5½-year contract looks remarkably fragile.
