The Internet Has Its Claws Out Over “Cats” Trailer

July 22, 2019

A recently dropped trailer for the film adaptation of the musical “Cats” has made the internet a little… catty.

The trailer for the film – based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical production – was unleashed upon the internet last Thursday, 18 July, and reactions have been mixed.

Social media, however, tore it to ribbons with many pointing out how ridiculous and disturbing the special effects used to create the “cats” are.

One user posted on Twitter: “The first trailer for [the] #CatsMovie is appropriately terrifying and insane, like a drug-induced nightmare made real. I can’t wait!”

Another user took a humorous stab at the trailer: “Do not watch the CATS the movie trailer! It is created by Russians who are stealing people’s faces and putting them on Cats!! [sic]”

The YouTube video currently has 23 000 “likes” to 57 000 “dislikes”.

The film is directed by Tom Hooper – who previously directed 2010’s “The King’s Speech” – and features a large ensemble cast that includes Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen and Rebel Wilson.

Time will tell if the memory of the beloved musical will be any different after 20 December, when it is set for release.
