The Future is Now: AirCar to Hit Markets in 2026
The dream of flying cars may soon lift off, thanks to Slovakian start-up, Klein Vision. Their AirCar has already completed over 170 flight hours and more than 500 take-offs and landings.
Klein Vision’s sleek, road-to-air vehicle was awarded its first airworthiness certificate in 2022, and is poised to enter the market by 2026, with a price tag of between $800 000 and $1 000 000.
The AirCar is a “dual-mode vehicle”: it transforms from car to plane in under two minutes. On the ground, it behaves like a sporty coupe with a top speed of 200 kilometres per hour, while in the air, it cruises at 250 kilometres per hour and has a range of 1 000 kilometres. The new model also boasts an upgraded 280-horsepower engine, extended flight range and improved switching speed between modes.
However, despite its futuristic allure, the AirCar isn’t poised to replace your daily commute. Owners will still require a pilot’s licence and access to a runway, as the vehicle has no vertical take-off or landing capability. Its use is likely to be limited to affluent private owners, corporate fleets and niche transport services rather than urban swarms of airborne commuters.
Co-founder Stefan Klein was recently honoured by the Living Legends of Aviation and, upon receiving his award, said: “The AirCar fulfills a lifelong dream to bring the freedom of flight into the hands of everyday people … we are one step closer to transforming how the world moves: merging the road and the sky into a new dimension of personal mobility.”
