“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” Dramatic Reboot is Coming!
Will Smith’s popular ‘90s sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, is coming back – but this time, as a reimagined, hard-hitting drama series.
The hilarious sitcom – which aired from 1990 to 1996 – starred Smith as a streetwise Philadelphia teenager who moves in with his upper-class uncle and aunt in Bel-Air, California.
In March 2019, independent filmmaker, Morgan Cooper, created a video trailer that reimagined the sitcom as a drama. The four-minute clip went viral on YouTube, and was highly praised by Smith himself.
Now, the 51-year-old actor is reportedly teaming up with Cooper to reboot “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, which will be a co-production between Smith’s entertainment company, Westbrook Studios, and Universal TV.
Cooper will co-write the script and serve as a director, as well as be credited as a co-executive producer.
Also onboard to produce the project are Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, Andy and Susan Borowitz – all of whom produced the original series.
The reboot is currently being shopped to streaming platforms such as HBO Max and Netflix.
