“The Flash” Actor Fired for Racist, Sexist Tweets
“The Flash” actor, Hartley Sawyer, has been fired from the television show after derogatory posts from his now-deleted Twitter account resurfaced online.
The 35-year-old actor – who starred as the Elongated Man in the show – got the chop after tweets of an incredibly racist and misogynistic nature were recently brought to light.
Dating mainly from 2012 and 2014, one of Sawyer’s tweets read: “The only thing keeping me from doing mildly racist tweets is the knowledge that [American civil rights activist] Al Sharpton would never stop complaining about me.”
Although Sawyer apologised for the tweets via an Instagram post on 30 May, Warner Bros. Television announced his firing on Monday, 8 June.
Eric Wallace – the executive producer on “The Flash” – issued his own statement, in which he criticised Sawyer before adding: “Yes, this is a family show. But it’s for all families. That includes Black and Brown [sic] ones … I will continue to find Black and Brown [sic] writers, directors, actors and producers of all genders to help tell Flash [sic] stories.”
