Teen Allegedly Murders Friend for $9M Online Offer

June 20, 2019

An alleged plot involving an Alaskan teenager and a $9 million offer from an online stranger to carry out and record the murder of the teen’s “best friend” has resulted in six people being indicted last Friday, 14 June.

According to court documents, 18-year-old Denali Brehmer is accused of conspiring to murder her “best friend” 19-year-old Cynthia Hoffman, after she was offered $9 million by a Kansas millionaire named “Tyler” for the act.

The investigation uncovered “Tyler” to be 21-year-old Darin Schilmiller using a fake identity.

Schilmiller reportedly offered Brehmer the money to not only rape and murder Hoffman, but to obtain footage of the event. Brehmer then recruited four other teens – Kayden McIntosh and Calebl Leylad; aged 19 and 16 respectively, and two others whose names have been withheld due to their ages – to assist in her plan.

Hoffman was murdered by gunshot – allegedly by McIntosh – on 2 June, whilst on a hike arranged by Brehmer to Thunderbird Falls, outside Anchorage.

Bryan Schroder, the US Attorney in Alaska, said: “For all the good the internet can do, it can be a very dark place.”
