Teacher And Pupil Killed By Lightning Bolt

March 24, 2016

A teacher and a pupil from the Ndanga community in Zimbabwe have died after they were struck by lightning last week.

The death of the teacher and the pupil – who were both at a secondary school in the area – has sent shockwaves through the community as the nes of the freak accident travels.

The teacher, Theresa Mufuka as well as the young boy, Charles Sarai, were both struck by the same lightning bolt and died instantly.

Apparently the lightning bolt had struck the pair as the boy was busy settling his school fees at the school and the teacher had tried to assist him.

What makes the turn of events even more strange and random than it already is, is the fact that the skies were clear that day. According to several witnesses at the school, there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky except for one, ominous cloud that seemed to “hover” over the school building.

While death by lightning strike is extremely rare, this isn’t the first tie a member of the same community or area had been struck by lightning.

Just a few months ago, a Chitungwiza resident was also killed by a lightning bolt during a religious prayer session.

Masvingo Provincial Education Director, Zedious Chitinga, has confirmed the deaths of Theresa Mufuka as well as that of Charles Sarai and said that both of them have been buried.

After the incident occurred, police spokesperson Charity Charamba said that the authorities have given put out a warning to all residents to be vigilant when outside during a thunderstorm.
