Tanzania Mine Collapse Traps 13

January 26, 2017

A Chinese-owned gold mine collapsed suddenly today in a remote area of Tanzania, trapping approximately 13 people underground.

According to Mponjoli Mwabulambo, a local police commander, a search team from the region gathered this morning to try to rescue any survivors but “the team hasn’t managed to pull out a body”.

Apparently a massive mound of earth collapsed unexpectedly in the mine in Nyarugusu village. The mine is owned by a Chinese company called RZP.  Approximately 13 workers, including a Chinese national, are currently buried inside.
No further details regarding the cause of the collapse, nor the state of those buried inside, have been released.
