Tammy Abraham Injury Scare Makes Chelsea Sweat

January 22, 2020

Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard, confirmed that his striker, Tammy Abraham, suffered an ankle injury during their nail-biting 2-2 draw at home against Arsenal on Tuesday, 21 January.

The 22-year-old footballer accidently ran into the advertising boards late in the second half, right after a challenge from Arsenal centre-back, Rob Holding.

The injury means more potential bad news for England manager, Gareth Southgate, as talents Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford are also on the benches just before UEFA Euro 2020, which starts in June.

Lampard has put on a brave face during the post-match interview, insisting that Chelsea have more than enough players to ensure they can compete without Abraham. He also stated that a lengthy injury would result in a greater need for the Blues to recruit a striker in the current transfer window.

Abraham shared his boss’ upbeat optimism, taking to Twitter to post his thoughts.

He tweeted on Wednesday morning: “Not the end result we would have liked but we have to keep going & [sic] fighting! Thanks for the support & [sic] messages. Hopefully my injury isn’t too bad.”
