Tamar Braxton: This Year was My Lowest Point

October 30, 2020

Tamar Braxton revealed that she tried to end her own life earlier this year because of mental health issues.

The 43-year-old songstress opened up in an interview on “The Tamron Hall Show” – her first appearance since her suicide attempt.

In the episode – which aired on Wednesday, 28 October – Braxton talked about how she was hospitalised in July, after she was found unconscious at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Los Angeles, California.

When pressed for details on her attempt, Braxton responded: “It’s so hard to say … because I feel like there’s a responsibility for – you know, I call them family, my fans, who watch. I don’t want to give any examples. But what I will say is, that was my lowest point of life.”

The “Braxton Family Values” star also admitted that although she is not on medication, she is seeing a counsellor for her mental health.

In a post on 30 July – just after she was discharged from the hospital – Braxton wrote in part of a lengthy caption: “I was betrayed, taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid … Mental illness is real. We have to normalise acknowledging it, and stop associating it with shame and humiliation.”
