Take a Bow! US Teen Gives Hope to Stray Pets
Every dog (and cat) has its day, and a 13-year-old sewing prodigy from Newark, New Jersey, is doing his bit to help them get it.
Sir Darius Brown has crafted over 500 bow-ties for shelter dogs and cats to not only make them look their best, but also improve their chances of getting adopted by potential owners.
More than 100 of these accessorised animals have reportedly found new homes, thanks to Brown’s efforts.
Brown’s foray into sewing first began when he was eight-years-old, when his older sister taught him how to sew in order to improve upon his motor skills.
After Hurricanes Harvey and Irma hit Texas and Florida in 2017, Brown – realising how many thousands of pet animals were displaced in the aftermath – started sewing personalised bow-ties for these stray animals.
The teen has earned much recognition and support from the public, including a Presidential Commendation from then-US president, Barack Obama, in 2018.
Brown has since started his own company, Beaux and Paws, through which he donates his handcrafted creations to countless animal charities around the United States and beyond.
