August 18, 2020

Two men have been indicted in connection with the murder of Run-D.M.C. member, Jam Master Jay, which took place 18 years ago in the US state of New York.

On 30 October 2002, the musician – real name Jason Mizell, who deejayed for the iconic hip hop group – was playing video games at his recording studio in Queens, New York City, when two men entered the building.

One of the men – who wore a mask – shot Jam Master Jay. He died aged 37, leaving behind his wife, three sons and a daughter.

On Monday, 18 August, the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York alleged that the musician was killed by Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan.

Some months before his death, Jam Master Jay allegedly acquired 10kg of cocaine and threatened to cut out the two suspects from the drug-trafficking deal. This resulted in their conspiring to kill him.

Jordan was arrested and charged for Jam Master Jay’s murder on Sunday, 16 August. Washington is currently serving a prison sentence for robbery, and will be formally charged next week.
