A surfer has been attacked by a shark in the quaint seaside village of Still Bay in the Western Cape of South Africa.

The NSRI has confirmed that a 42-year old man was attacked by a shark in Still Bay on Sunday, and that the man is currently in a serious condition in hospital.

It is not yet known exactly what kind of shark attacked the man, but it is believed to be a Great White Shark ranging between 3 and 5 meters.

A spokesperson for the NSRI said that two NSRI members were surfing in the same vicinity as the man and that they had assisted him to shore where the paramedics took over:

“…[sic] Two crew members were surfing in the vicinity at the time and they assisted the local man out of the water and they were also assisted by another member of the public,” the spokesperson said.
