Sudan Issues Flood Warning

August 12, 2016

Sudan has issued a flood warning for residents in the country living close to the Blue Nile branch of the Nile river.

Torrential rain has been wreaking havoc on various African countries over the past month, with Mali reporting 14 deaths relating to flooding in the country already.

Now, locals in Sudan living close to the banks of the Nile have also been warned to stay alert as it is possible that the areas close to the banks of the Nile will flood. The government said that water levels on the Blue Nile has been rising significantly.

“…The Blue Nile is rising because of continuous heavy rainfall in Ethiopia…[sic] We warn residents living on both sides of the Nile to be cautious,” local Sudanese authorities said.

Sudan has been experiencing torrential rain for the past two weeks.

Authorities in Sudan have also confirmed that more than a dozen people have been killed by the heavy downpour thus far.

The United Nations had warned of possible floods hitting the country between July and November this year.
