Student Protests Continue In SA
Students across South Africa have continued their protest against proposed university fee increases, and it seems that the movement is only picking up pace.
Students from UCT, Wits, Rhodes and Stellenbosch have all continued their third day of protesting with classes being suspended at some universities for the third consecutive day.
Things have also escalated in Cape Town, where a large group of UCT students and workers have started protesting outside of parliament where South Africa’s minister of finance was said to be making his mini-budget speech today.
Reports have started circulating of students trying to push through barricades at parliament, demanding a lower fee increase.
The government announced yesterday that they would cap university fee increases at 6%. However, these increases were rejected by the student protesters.
