Spurs Squad Crisis: Richarlison Out for Seven Weeks

January 16, 2026

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a major setback with top scorer Richarlison ruled out for seven weeks due to a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old Brazilian forward was forced off during the club’s recent Football Association Cup 1-2 exit against Aston Villa.

Spurs head coach Thomas Frank confirmed the severity of the blow, telling an international publication on Thursday, 15 January: “Richy unfortunately got a hamstring injury that will keep him out for up to seven weeks.”

This timeline means the star goal magnet could miss ten crucial fixtures, including several Champions League ties and high-stakes English Premier League clashes against Manchester City and Arsenal.

With James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski also unavailable, Frank admitted that the club is searching for attacking reinforcements.

“We are in the market … to see if we can improve the squad, but it needs to be something that we improve for the short- and long-term,” he added.

There is some relief for the London side, as new £35-million signee Conor Gallagher is available to debut against West Ham tomorrow, Saturday 16 January. Additionally, Yves Bissouma and Lucas Bergvall return to the squad, while Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie are nearing full fitness.

John Heitinga also joins the staff as an assistant coach to bolster the technical staff.
