Spurs in Freefall Following Heavy Home Defeat to Forest

March 23, 2026

Tottenham Hotspur are facing a historic crisis after a 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest left them 17th in the English Premier League on Sunday, 22 March.

Despite a £1 billion stadium, Spurs now possess the division’s worst home record, having failed to win a league match in 2026.

Igor Jesus opened the scoring before half-time, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi completing the rout. Tactical decisions by interim manager Igor Tudor drew heavy criticism, particularly the half-time withdrawal of Micky van de Ven.

Assistant coach Bruno Saltor defended the move, stating, “it was a sub with the intention to give more dynamic on the left side.”

The atmosphere turned toxic as fans booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who struggled while playing through a hernia injury. The defeat leaves Tottenham just one point above the relegation zone with seven matches remaining.

Captain Cristian Romero admitted the gravity of the situation, telling an international publication: “It’s painful, it’s a bad day, but the most important thing is to go away to national teams, come back here and have seven finals.”

Spurs next face Sunderland on 12 April, knowing any further slip-ups could result in their first relegation since 1977.
