Southgate Won’t Be New English Coach
New reports by British media outlets are suggesting that gareth Southgate is no longer in the running of becoming the new coach of England.
Earlier in the week, many bookies as well as reports had suggested the Southgate – who is the current coach of the English national u/21 team – is the frontrunner to replace Roy Hodgson as coach of the English national football team.
Hodgson had resigned from his post almost immediately after England lost to Iceland in a shocking Euro 2016 top 16 game on Monday.
After his resignation, speculation as to who would resume his post started.
Reports are saying that Southgate has apparently ‘no interest’ in managing the English national team, nor has he been contacted by any official of the English national team.
FA chairperson, Greg Dyke, said that there are a lot of contenders and that the best option would be to go with the best candidate:
“…It’s got to be somebody who really knows English football…But there are loads of them now, more of them than there are English,” he said.
He continued saying that it’s important to get the best person for the job – and in the same breath, he also questioned why anyone would want the job anyway:
“…You need someone who knows about English football. But Martin (Glenn, FA chief executive) made clear you go for the best person. The harder question is why anybody would want it,” he said.
