Southern Africa Hit Hard By El Nino

Southern parts of Africa has been hit hard by the weather phenomenon know as El Nino, leaving thousands of people on the continent in distress.

The weird weather phenomenon has seriously affected farmers in the souther part of Africa and has caused droughts and a sharp decline in harvests.

In South Africa, maize output having dropped by 30% – the lowest it has ever been in recent years. Farmers are getting more and more desperate by the day to make do without rainfall.

Analysts have said that the worst affected areas on the African content in terms of El Nino will include Zimbabwe and almost all of its neighbouring countries, including Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Zambia, Mozambique and Lesotho.

The severe weather has caused harrowing heat waves and long drawn out droughts in both Zimbabwe and South Africa.

UNICEF has also reported that the effects of El Nino may also cause hunger and have severe effects on children.
