Southampton: Claude Puel Sacked
English Premier League club, Southampton, has fired manager, Claude Puel, after just one season in charge of The Saints.
The club hired Puel to succeed Ronald Koeman last year, but just as his predecessor, it seems that Puel did not deliver the results Southampton management were looking for.
Southampton did not have a terrible season. The club managed to make it to the final of the EFL Cup and finished 8th on the Premier League log, despite only winning 12 EPL matches.
In a statement released on their official website on Wednesday evening, The Saints confirmed Puel’s sacking.
“Southampton can today confirm that it has terminated the contract of Claude Puel with immediate effect. Everyone at Southampton would like to express our thanks to Claude for his hard work and commitment this year. We wish Claude well for the future. The search for a new management team is underway. We are confident that we will find the right fit in line with the long-term vision of the club”.
Reports have suggested that Director of Football at Southampton, Les Reed, was not happy with Puel’s strategies and was looking to replace Puel for quite some time.
Supporters of the club had also made it clear that they were not happy with Puel’s management style and The Saints’ style of play under him.
In his final match as manager, a 1-0 defeat to Stoke City, supporters in the stands started to boo Puel and chant “you don’t know what you’re doing”.
