Soulja Boy Arrested in LA Over Suspected Gun Possession
Soulja Boy has been arrested in Los Angeles, California, on suspicion of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
The 35-year-old rapper – whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way – was taken into custody after a traffic stop conducted early on Sunday morning, 3 August.
According to police, Soulja Boy was a passenger in the vehicle and was later booked into LAPD’s Wilshire Division jail. Authorities have not disclosed what led to the stop, nor have they identified other persons who were present in the car at the time.
Possessing a firearm while having a felony conviction is considered a serious offence under Californian law. Soulja Boy has not publicly commented on the arrest, and his representatives have yet to respond to requests.
Best known for his 2007 hit, “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”, which topped the American charts and picked up a Grammy nomination, the rapper has faced several legal issues since then. Earlier this year, he was ordered to pay more than $4 million in damages to a former assistant, following a civil court ruling that found him liable for sexual assault and physical abuse.
The investigation into the weekend incident is ongoing.
