
Sofia Vergara Misses Emmys After Sudden Eye Allergy
Sofia Vergara was forced to skip the 77th Emmy Awards after a sudden health scare landed her in the hospital on Sunday, 14 September.
The next day, the 53-year-old actress revealed via Instagram that she experienced what she called the “craziest eye allergy” just moments before leaving for the ceremony in Los Angeles, California.
Sharing a close-up of her swollen left eye, the “Modern Family” star joked: “Didn’t make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER. Sorry, I had to cancel! Craziest eye allergy right before getting in the car! [sic]”
Additional clips showed her lying on a hospital bed and rinsing her eye, still dressed in casual clothes, even though her hair and make-up were red carpet-ready.
Colleagues and fans quickly flooded her comments with messages of support.
“America’s Got Talent” host Terry Crews told her: “Oh no! Get well soon!”
While fellow judge Heidi Klum reacted: “What the f…”
Vergara was expected to present an award during the evening, which was hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.
She was not the only high-profile absentee: “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Eric Dane, who recently disclosed his Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis diagnosis, also did not appear. His former co-star Jesse Williams presented the “Drama Series Directing” award solo in honour of the show’s 20th anniversary.
