Six People Killed in Car Bomb Attack in Mogadishu

May 09, 2017

Somali officials have said that at least six people have been killed and several others injured in a car bomb attack in the country’s capital city of Mogadishu on Monday.

Mogadishu has become a hub for terrorist attacks over the past year, as Somalia continues their fight against Islamist militant groups terrorising the country.

The government said it is not yet clear as to who is responsible for the attack on Monday, but that they suspect it is terrorist group, al-Shabaab.

However, neither al-Shabaab nor any other terrorist group has claimed responsibility as of yet.

A police official said that there are six people dead at the moment, but that the death toll from the blast could still rise.

“For the moment we have six dead in the explosion, civilians. The car full of explosives blew up next to an Italian cafe,” he said.

Another witness to the attack said that there were a lot of people around at the time of the explosion.

“The blast was very powerful and there were a lot of people there at the time, I saw several people dead and injured [sic],” the witness told reporters.

Back in February of this year al-Shabaab said that they intend to intensify their attack on the government of Somalia, by launching more and more of these kind of attacks.
