A Nigerian official has confirmed that several Nigerian military soldiers were killed during an attack by Boko Haram in the Borno State of the country.

According to Usman Mamman Durkwa, the deputy governor of the Borno state, Boko Haram militants attacked and then proceeded to burn down a military base in the state.

He also confirmed that initial reports on the the death toll of the attack were wrong, and that at first it was reported that only two soldiers were killed in the attacks.

When Durkwa arrived on the scene, it became clear that more than two soldiers were killed in the attack. He said that he could not give a specific number of lost lives.

“When we got there today, we discovered the number of lives lost was far beyond that,” he told reporters.

Durkwa told reporters that one of the people killed in the attack was a policeman. He also said that the Boko Haram militants raided a nearby hospital of medicine.

Durkwa’s account of what happened at the military base and how many lives were lost is in direct contradiction to what Sani Kukasheka Usman, a spokesperson for the Nigerian army said.

According to Usman, the army had successfully repelled an attack in the town where the military base was located.
