Senzo Meyiwa: 5 Murder Suspects Arrested

October 27, 2020

Six years to the day that South African soccer player, Senzo Meyiwa, tragically lost his life, five people have been arrested in connection with the killing.

On 26 October 2014 in Vosloorus, Gauteng, the 30-year-old Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot dead in the home of his then-girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo.

During a press briefing yesterday, Monday 26 October, police minister Bheki Cele announced a breakthrough in the Meyiwa murder case.

Cele explained that five arrests were made between 8AM and 10AM that morning in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

He said: “The [South African Police Service] and [the National Prosecuting Authority] are confident that we have a watertight case against all five suspects. At this point, we cannot reveal any further information as investigations are still ongoing and more arrests cannot be ruled out.”

National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole added: “One of them is suspected of having pulled the trigger in the case. Secondly, this case is backed up by forensic evidence.”

The suspects are due to appear in Boksburg Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday 27 October, where their charges will be revealed.
