Senegal: President Sall Dissolves Government
The president of Senegal has officially dissolved his government, only 18 months after it was established.
In April 2019, President Macky Sall – who was re-elected leader of the West African country a month prior – established a 32-strong cabinet, as well as appointed three secretaries of state.
On Wednesday evening, 28 October, a statement was released by Sall’s office, declaring that the 58-year-old politician had signed four decrees in order to dissolve his government.
The statement continues: “While awaiting the putting in place of a new government, outgoing ministers and secretaries of state are charged with carrying out their ongoing affairs.”
Additionally, Sall dismissed longtime associate, Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dione, from his position as secretary-general to the presidency.
Aminata Toure – who is said to harbour presidential ambitions – was also dismissed from her post as chair of the country’s economic, social and environmental council.
A reason for the dissolution and dismissals were not given, nor has a date been made for when the new cabinet shall be formed.
