Senegal Grants US Forces Permanent Access To Country
Senegal’s government has announced that they have signed a deal with the US to allow US troops permanent access into the country.
The defence accord was signed by the Senegal government and the US yesterday.
The signing if the defense accord now means that the US soldiers will have a permanent presence in the African country, to help their own military and defence forces fight off terrorist threats.
According to officials, the accord will also give the US troops access to various locations in Senegal such as airports and military bases.
The accord also stipulate certain rules that the US and Senegalese troops need to adhere to in order to put in a combined effort to thwart any terrorist threats.
Thus far, Senegal has remained fairly untouched by terrorist attacks compared to neighbouring countries.
In January, 30 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso and in March, 19 people died as a result of a terrorist attack at a beach resort in the Ivory Coast.
