Selena Gomez’s BFF Did What?

September 15, 2017

Selena Gomez has revealed that she underwent a kidney transplant earlier this year – and that her best friend was the donor.

Now that’s what we call a friend.

The “Bad Liar” singer made the announcement to her 127 million followers in a post on her official Instagram account, saying:

“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of”.

Gomez explained that she found out she needed the transplant to combat health issues arising from Lupus.

According to media reports, Gomez was rushed to hospital with kidney failure in May of this year while in Chicago to support her boyfriend, The Weeknd, at his concert. He has been by her side throughout the entire ordeal.

The 25-year-old popstar and actress has been outspoken about her ongoing battle with Lupus, since she was diagnosed in 2015.

Lupus is a lifelong autoimmune disease that comes with swelling, rashes, joint pain and fatigue. It can also attack and destroy parts of the body, such as the skin, joints, or even vital organs.

Alongside a picture of the two in adjoining hospital beds, Gomez also thanked her best friend, actress Francia Raisa, for donating her kidney.

Raisa is a 29-year-old model-turned-actress, best known for her role in the American TV series, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”. She has been friends with Gomez since 2008, when they met at a charity event between ABC and Disney.

Speaking of Raisa, Gomez said: “There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend…I love you so much sis [sic].”

The two have fully recovered from the surgery and are doing well.
