Schneiderlin: I Lost ‘Joy of Football’ At United

March 15, 2017

Everton midfielder and French international, Morgan Schneiderlin, has revealed that his failed spell at Manchester United almost caused him to lose his love of football altogether.

Schneiderlin never seemed to be a favourite of Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho.

The 27-year-old joined United in 2015 and had many appearances under former manager, Louis Van Gaal. However, when Mourinho took over the reins in May of 2016, Schneiderlin seemingly fell out of favour with the new manager and only had three substitute appearances for the club.

Schneiderlin then made the move to Everton in January of this year.

Speaking to the media recently, Schneiderlin admitted that he was not feeling motivated at United and that his unmotivated feeling and lack of opportunities almost destroyed his love of football.

“I did lose my joy of football a little bit because when you don’t play, you don’t play with freedom and everything is very hard [sic],” he said.

He continued, saying that since he has been with Everton and under the management of Ronald Koeman, he has regained his love of the game. He also said that Koeman has shown confidence in him, which has helped him perform better.

“Since I’ve come here the manager knows what I’m all about. He placed confidence in me in the past and he has done so again. It’s a joy to work with him every day.”

Schneiderlin has had a number of appearances for Everton since joining the club, but none as significant as his most recent appearance last Saturday, when he scored his first goal for the club in their winning match against West Brom.

“I’m very happy to find this joy of football again and hopefully it will carry on for me,” he concluded.
