Salah Crisis: A Point of No Return?
Liverpool’s star striker, Mohamed Salah, has thrown the club into crisis after an extraordinary post-match interview last Saturday, 6 December, revealing his relationship with manager Arne Slot has “broken down”.
Benched for a third straight game, the 33-year-old Egyptian forward suggested his time at Anfield could be over, claiming he felt like a scapegoat and that “someone didn’t want him at the club” following the 3-3 draw with Leeds at Elland Road Stadium in Leeds, England.
The public outburst has put immense pressure on Slot ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League clash with Inter Milan tomorrow, Tuesday 9 December, with reports suggesting Salah could be omitted from the travelling squad.
Former England captain Wayne Rooney did not mince words during a recent episode of his podcast, arguing that Salah is “absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool” and calling for Slot to stamp his authority by dropping him immediately.
With the Africa Cup of Nations looming and Salah receiving renewed interest from Saudi Pro League franchises, the next seven days are deemed crucial in determining whether the decorated goalscorer has played his last match for the Reds.
