Salah and Caldentey Headline 2025 PFA Awards

August 20, 2025

Mohamed Salah and Mariona Caldentey were crowned the Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Players of the Year on Tuesday, 19 August, after outstanding campaigns in 2024/25.

Salah made history as the first player to claim the award three times, thanks to his 29 goals and 18 assists which propelled Liverpool to the English Premier League title last season.

Reflecting on his journey, the 33-year-old Egyptian forward said: “I look at myself now, a guy coming from Egypt and making it to the top level, making history today, it’s something that makes me so proud.”

Caldentey excelled in her debut season at Arsenal, scoring 19 times and inspiring the club to Champions League glory against her former side, Barcelona. She also struck for Spain in the Euro 2025 final, though they lost to England on penalties.

Young Player of the Year honours went to Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Arsenal’s record signing Olivia Smith.

In the Championship, Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford won Player of the Year after he broke Football League records with 29 clean sheets. Richard Kone – previously of Wycombe, and now Queens Park Rangers – and Bromley’s Michael Cheek collected the League One and Two awards respectively.

Special merit prizes were presented to Sir Gareth Southgate and USA head coach Emma Hayes for their contributions to the game.
