SA Duo Walk to Raise R500 000
As many families in South Africa suffer from the negative economic impact of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, two friends from Port Shepstone have come up with a way to aid their community.
The country – in which 721 770 people have contracted the virus – is currently undergoing a nationwide lockdown, which has had severe consequences for thousands of families, such as unemployment.
To help those in need, Yaseen Bux and Zusakhe Nangu are embarking on a 350-kilometre walk from Port Edward to Richards Bay.
In support of their cause and in anticipation of their journey, the duo have launched a campaign on the crowdfunding platform, BackaBuddy, in which they hope to raise R500 000.
Bux explained: “The proceeds from our campaign will be directed to the Gift of the Givers Foundation to purchase the food parcels, which will be given to communities who are in dire need of relief.”
So far, R6 000 has been raised through the campaign.
Bux and Nangu’s journey will begin next Monday, 2 November, and they will likely arrive in Richards Bay by next Friday, 6 November.
