Ryan Giggs: We Need to Grab Our Chances
Wales’ 0-1 defeat to Hungary on Tuesday, 11 June, has made qualifying for Euro 2020 more difficult, but Welsh manager Ryan Giggs remains realistic about his teams’ chances.
The 45-year-old former midfielder defended winger Gareth Bale after the latter missed a golden opportunity on goal at the 60-minute mark. Giggs claims that expecting Bale to play after a six-week absence has taken a toll on his fitness levels.
Wales displayed more mettle than Hungary, but Mate Patkai’s late second-half goal had the final word on the matter.
Giggs claims that team fitness is the largest worry facing his side.
He said: “You have seen it in both games, a lot of the payers are short of match fitness. Obviously we have to start winning and if not win all the games, then the majority of them.”
Wales are currently in fourth place in Group E with three points, six shy of group leaders Hungary.
