Ruben Amorim’s Future in Doubt After Man U Defeat

May 12, 2025

Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United is under serious threat following another poor performance, with the club now enduring its worst-ever English Premier League (EPL) season.

A 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday, 11 May, saw United drop to 16th place on the EPL table with 39 points, leaving the 40-year-old Portuguese manager reflecting on his tenure.

Despite guiding the team to the Europa League final, Amorim admitted he was “embarrassed” by the club’s luck in the domestic competition, stressing that a deeper cultural change is needed.

In a post-match interview, he acknowledged that the Red Devils’ mentality has deteriorated, saying: “There’s a lack of urgency when we’re defending our box and there’s a lack of urgency when we are near the box”.

With United’s points tally at a record low, Amorim suggested that the club’s problems run “deeper” than just results. “I’m talking about myself and the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We need to change that,” he added.

The embattled manager’s comments signal a critical moment in the side’s history, with a summer overhaul needed if they are to avoid another disappointing season. The pressure is mounting as United faces a decisive crossroads.
