Rooney Says He Wants To Stay with United

Manchester United captain and English international, Wayne Rooney, has said that he wants to stay on with the club next season, despite his rather rocky performance this season.

Rooney has had a tough season and has been benched for many games. A stark contrast to other seasons where he was ultimately the star of the show.

He has only been in the starting lineup 22 times this season.

Rooney spoke to reporters ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League semi-final clash against Celta Vigo, saying that he would prefer to stay with United – even if his future at the club may seem uncertain.

He also said that naturally he would like more playing time, but that he understands that his career is just in a different place at the moment.

“I’ve been at this club 13 years. Of course I want to play football…football changes. You have different periods, different challenges in your career…This season of course I’ve not played as much as I’d have liked to, but that’s the way it’s panned out. I’ve tried to help the team on and off the pitch and tried to help us win,” he said.

When reporters asked Rooney whether he would want to stay with Manchester United, Rooney simply replied “of course”.

“I haven’t thrown my toys out of the pram. I haven’t made a big fuss of it. But of course I’m a football player and I want to play football…The more I can play, the better for me and the more I feel I can help the team,” he said.
