Rodgers Urges Celtic to Embrace Confidence in Kairat Clash

August 26, 2025

Celtic head coach, Brendan Rodgers, has urged his players to be confident in their abilities when they face off against FC Kairat tonight, Tuesday 26 August.

The Irish team will go head-to-head with the Kazakh outfit in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie at Pavlodar Central Stadium in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

In a recent pre-match interview, Rodgers told reporters that the team needs to focus on their performance rather than failing under pressure, especially at a venue so far from home.

“Don’t worry about failing; worry about performance. If you think so much of the consequences, it can paralyse you,” he said.

Acknowledging their opponents’ superb playing abilities, the 52-year-old Northern Irish manager continued: “We have to play our game, [to] play the football that we’ve played in a lot of the league games this year. If we take that into the game, then we’ve got a fantastic chance of qualification.”

Raphael Urazbakhtin, Kairat’s head coach, responded: “They understand that everything depends on them. We also think that everything depends on us. I don’t think there is a bigger pressure on Celtic than on our home team.

“We will try to meet them and qualify for the group stage. And our task is to make it happen, to do everything we can.”
