Rock Icon David Bowie Dies

One of the world’s most prolific and famous rock icons, David Bowie, has died.

Bowie died peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends in the early hours of this morning. A statement released on David Bowie’s official Facebook-page confirmed the news and the story broke in the UK and US this morning.

It was revealed on the statement that Bowie had secretly battled cancer for the past 18 months, and that he had finally succumbed to the disease at the age of 69 – a mere two days after his birthday.

A notoriously private man, it came as no surprise that Bowie decided not to reveal his illness to the world.

After the news of his death broke, heartwarming messages of support and shock cluttered up social media. Celebrities and fans alike, the world over, expressed their shock and sadness by the sudden news of his passing.

Bowie was a trailblazer and true artists. His music and performances paved the way for many other artists, musicians and bands. He was known for his out-there music, his amazing stage performances and of course, multi-platinum selling albums. He often performed under the name ‘Ziggy Stardust’ – his on stage alter ego.

Bowie is survived by his two children and his wife, African supermodel, Iman.
