Robert Irwin Says Dancing Is Scarier Than Crocodiles

September 11, 2025

Robert Irwin is swapping crocodile wrangling for the ballroom as he joins season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars” (DWTS), which premieres on Tuesday, 16 September.

The 21-year-old wildlife conservationist admits the dance floor is outside his comfort zone.

“Look, if you think you’re bad at dancing, multiply that by 100!” he told an international publication on Wednesday, 10 September.

Irwin – who thrives on adrenaline by surfing, skydiving and rock climbing – says the challenge is both “terrifying” and exhilarating. He also sees it as an opportunity to spread his conservation message to a wider audience, warning of climate change, habitat loss and declining species. Despite the grim realities, he insists there is still time to turn things around.

To strengthen the family connection, Robert’s sister Bindi Irwin – who won DWTS in 2015 – recently offered her support.

“Just try and give it your all, but enjoy and make it your own,” she shared in a surprise video message, while adding: “This is going to change your entire life… I am so proud of you. Let your personality shine and you’ve got this!”

With encouragement from his sister and fans alike, Irwin is ready to face the spotlight, sequins and all.
